A short and sweet week :)

Grade 3K students are continuing to inquire into their unit on "Who We Are". They have been learning different strategies to solve number problems in centres using number bonds, skip counting, doubling and halving. In English, they have drafted their first and final drafts of one of their diary entries called "Dear Diary".

Students working in pairs, groups and individually during their Music lessons. They are learning to play different notes on the recorders and using technology at the same time to understand music better.

Unveiling of the Central Idea of the Unit on "Health and Wellbeing"

Students were provided with some key words from the central idea in each center and were asked to write their understanding on each of them. Thereafter, we discussed the statement and came up with their actual meaning related to our theme.

Ms. Karuna our head of the Language Acquisition, came as a guest speaker to celebrate "Hindi Divas" which was on 14th September. It is marked as the National Language Day in India each year. She took a session followed by group activities on Thursday as Friday was the PTM.

Summary of the week

The number of students grew from last week and have been working constantly on taking action by researching on different topics and presenting them in varied ways. The pictures below displays their enthusiasm where they present their understanding and learning about 'Ecosystems' which is their year long unit.
Shyreen explaining about her project that she created as a part of her enrichment activity- 'Recycle Arts'

Naisha's explanation on an 'Ecosystem'

Suhaan researched about 'Food Web' and explained about the varied components present in an 'Ecosystem'

We began with our new unit on "Who We Are" where we'll be focussing on 'Health and Well-being". Pictures below display the time where the students were trying to identify the relationship between various artefacts. They made connections of the same with their lives and also predicted the theme after the discussion.

Reflection after the activity with the whole class

Students conducted a survey on different activities they perform during the day. It was in the form of 'people's bingo' which was followed by data collection and analysis using the startegy of CORI- Collect, Organize, Represent and Interpret. (Maths Integration)

After collecting the data, they sorted and organized the same using tally marks.

With the new unit, we also started with a new topic of 'Journal Writing' in English. Ms. Robin introduced the students to different types of diaries. Students will be encouraged to maintain their own diaries.

Student council elections were also held during the week. We had a tie between Naisha and Krishna, so they had to prepare a speech and present before the class. Naisha then received the maximum number of votes and was selected to be the student council representative for Grade 3 K.

Ms. Robin and I read a book on 'Diary of a Worm' as an exemplar for the students to start with their diary writing. They have written their first note in their diaries on the 'Teacher's Day'

As a bus stop activity, students explored different pictures related to their unit and made connections with the theme and learnt new vocabulary. They wrote their understanding using post-its and we also had a discussion as a whole class at the end of the activity.

Representation of data collected was done by using a bar graph where students worked individually to present their understanding.

We also worked in centres to further learn the different concepts in Maths. Number bonds, Skip counting, Doubling and Halving were praticed by the students using manipulatives.

Students will be interpreting the data collected in the coming week and will continue to learn new concepts. New inquiries enhances their learning. Keep motivating them to read and research at home too. Happy learning!! :)
